Ascendant Beer Company used to be Pints. We come here every time we visit Portland. This time we went to Ascendant Beer Company straight from the airport for lunch. This is a place that has both great food and great beer. We had one of the signature burgers of the house, the Black Bean Burger. The Black Bean Burger (13) is house made with hummus, a kale pesto, lettuce, pickles (also house made), onion, and tomato on Farmhouse bread. This burger comes with some mighty delicious fries. Since I didn’t have my full allotment of fried food, we also ordered the fried pickle spears with a ranch sauce (7). They were excellent! I had the Fighting Horses of Kentucky Common Ale which was absolutely delicious! Once again, I asked the bartender which beer she would recommend. She brought us a tiny taste of beer. She was spot on with an incredible common ale and an equally delightful IPA.
It was a great late lunch. The next time we are in Portland, OR, we will be back!
