As you may recall in a previous post I reviewed Fusion Tacos at Santa Fe Brewing. This weekend the visiting food truck was Cuba Fe. I loved Cuba Fe when it was a small bricks and mortar on 3rd street. Then Cuba Fe disappeared. Luckily, I read an article about Cuba Fe in the Santa Fe New Mexican on April 20, 2021. Cuba Fe was going to be the pop-up food truck at Santa Fe Brewing from May 13-16th.

I am sorry to say that there were no vegetarian entree options. The beans and rice(5) were a side. It worked for lunch. As I was driving home, I could smell the aroma of the black beans and the peppers. It was a very long 1/2 hour. But I made it home just in time to devour this wonderful combination. I love black beans. I especially love black beans and rice. It is a comfort food for me. I did need to add some hot sauce but this dish was wonderful.

Ok, I can remember first having this combination many years ago. I think black beans and rice has greatly contributed to my affinity for black beans. This dish was as good as my memory of this wonderful combination. Good Work, Cuba Fe.
The star of our lunch was the Cuban Flan. Oh, my!!! I’m lucky this is just a pop-up food truck. I’m not even a big flan fan but this flan was something incredibly special.

Quite possibly the best flan I have ever had. I am getting a sugar high just looking at this photo. Oh, man. The caramel and the custard. The Best! And for 5 dollars it was an incredible steal. If you ordered ahead the entire flan was priced at 30 dollars. From reading the Santa Fe New Mexican article, I am not alone in my adoration.
Everyone was informative and friendly at Cuba Fe. I came just before a rush of people arrived. Yes, there was a line after I placed my order. My order was quickly assembled and handed to me.
I will be checking around to see when Cuba Fe will be popping up again. If you access the Cuba Fe website, you can sign up for future pop-ups.
