I had never heard of Tako Ten until I went to an Albuquerque Isotopes Baseball game. If the Isotopes scored 10 or more runs the crowd received a card that entitled them to two free tacos from Tako Ten. So we were lucky that the Isotopes scored more than 10 runs. Yes! we received a card for free tacos. The catch was that we would have to redeem this at the original location at 12501 Candelaria Rd NE in Albuquerque. I thought that we could check out the new location of Tako Ten on Montgomery since it was a lot closer than the Candelaria location. If the tacos were good, we would eventually venture to the original location. I really was impressed with the Mural along the west wall inside the restaurant. It was colorful and interesting. It gave the restaurant an original feel, one that I really enjoyed.

Since I had looked at the menu online, I was almost ready to order. When I am visiting a restaurant for the first time, I like to ask questions about the food. I was very pleased that there were two vegan options on the menu, the vegan sweet potato and the battered avocado tacos.
I got one of each. The vegan sweet potato taco was a crispy sweet potato glazed with non bee honey and topped with guacamole, a creamy house chipotle hummus and a Jerusalem salad. This taco was both gluten-free and vegan. It was delicious in its soft corn taco. They gave us some small limes to add to the flavor of the taco. The battered avocado was lightly battered(always a plus). It was fried in a light crispy batter and finished with a baja slaw and their house crema. I asked for the vegan version. It was delicious as well. If I had to pick, I would choose the sweet potato as my favorite taco. Although that was a hard choice. Another hard choice was picking out a salsa.

There were so many salsas to choose from. There were 8 choices of salsa from a fire salsa to a mild salsa. Wow! What a selection. Our server took pity on us and give us an assortment of all the salsas.

Ok, the descriptions were spot on. The ruby red salsa was hot! But I didn’t think that the salsa verde was that hot. Maybe because I am so used to hot salsa verde. It is my favorite all around salsa.

As you can see, the battered shrimp taco was filled with lots of baja slaw and also topped with the house crema. While the battered avocado looked pretty much like my vegan taco except for the dressing on the baja slaw. The fish selection varies, we just happened to get the shrimp. You can also have the fish blackened. If you are not crazy about having a corn tortilla, you can also request a lettuce wrapped taco. Interesting, I never thought to have a lettuce taco wrapper. You can also add sides to your taco. I am going to have green chile(.50) next time on my tacos.

Of course, Tako Ten has a special on Tuesdays. On Tuesday, you can get 3 tacos for 9 dollars plus a soft drink of your choice. The Tako Ten on Montgomery also has hamburgers for all you meat eaters.
I checked the online menu, there are so many kinds of add-ons that you can purchase that I am going to just give you a link.
Tako Ten is a small Albuquerque chain. This is what the Albuquerque Journal had to say about Tako Ten.
The website keeps telling me that the Tako Ten on Candelaria is closed. I don’t know. The Tako Ten on Montgomery is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-8pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-9pm
