I’ve been going to The Candy Lady for years. Even before, I moved to New Mexico, I knew about the Candy Lady, Debbie Ball. This is her second location. Sadly, at her first location the landlord upped the rent when the Candy Lady’s Candy was featured in a hit TV show called Breaking Bad. The Candy Lady was approached to make the blue meth prop for the show. So the Candy Lady moved a couple of blocks into Old Town Albuquerque. She is located in this light and bright storefront at 424 San Felipe NW.

There is lots of Breaking Bad memorabilia through out the store. People come from all over the world to check out the Breaking Bad souvenirs. I visited right after Balloon Fiesta, which is a peak time like Christmas and Easter. After the balloons go up in the early morning, tourists flock to Albuquerque’s Old Town and to visit the Candy Lady. I know because I was one of those former tourists.

I am particularly fond of blackies (19.95lb). The Candy Lady’s specialty licorice. I love them. Blackies are very addictive so watch out. They are some of the best licorice I have ever had. This is a very hot item so at Christmas time, I call ahead to make sure that they are in stock. I’m not opening the wrapper because I promised to give these tasty morsels away. I could eat an entire bag of them. They are just so creamy, fresh, and delicious. The same goes for the peanut butter crunch.

Here is a piece of the peanut butter crunch(19.96 lb). If you like peanut butter, you will fall in love with these bite size pieces. I did years ago. It is my go to gift for people who do not like chocolates. Yes, I know people who don’t like chocolate and they are still my friends.

These are in a special case right near the register. We were lucky that both the peanut butter crunch and blackies were in stock.

This is the place to go for a entire line of chocolates. The east wall is devoted to licorice. The display cases are just full of all kinds of goodies. There is a section for sugar free candy and chocolate dipped fruit. You can also order custom cakes here.
You can also order online and have your goodies sent out.
The Candy Lady is located at 424 San Felipe NM in Albuquerque’s Old Town.
Hours are Monday 11am-5pm, Tuesday-Wednesday 12pm-5pm, Thursday 11am-5pm, Friday and Saturday 11am-6pm, and Sunday 12pm-5pm. The Candy Lady phone number is (505) 243-6239.
The Candy Lady has expanded to include the Kokopelli Cafe which is next door to the Candy Lady Store. Debbie said that she is using recipes from her Mom at this cafe. It is supposed to be a light lunch place with outdoor seating which is where we were talking to Debbie about the Kokopelli Cafe and the Candy Lady Store. We hadn’t seen her in awhile and wished her well with her new establishment. Sadly, we had already eaten before we came to the candy store which is always a good idea when you visit her store.
