Sazón
We were eagerly awaiting our dinner at Sazón. We hadn’t been there for awhile. I love Chef Fernando Olea’s take on truly upscale Mexican food. The prix fixe was 45 dollars per person for a 3 course meal. The meal was well worth the price.
We started with a delicious Villa Montefiori, a Mexican Red Wine. Yes, I had no idea that Mexico exported wine to the US. The wine was the perfect accompaniment to our meal. Our first course was the ever delicious black bean soup. I love this soup. It has layers of flavor, which is how I would describe Chef Olea’s entire menu.
This year we tried something new for New Mexico Restaurant Week 2018, we had the Enmolada De Betables which are a corn tortilla with beets, Poblano peppers, zucchini, and corn topped with a Mole Verde.
Our sauces were absolutely incredible! the sauce matched the entree perfectly. I was so impressed. The Enmolada was delicate but filing. this was a whole new level of food sophistication. I marvel at the complex tastes that were assembled for this meal.
For dessert we had the volcan de chocolate, a chocolate cake served with what else more chocolate.
The service is superb. There are always several people checking in on your table to see how you are doing. Your water glass is always filled. The restaurant space is cozy. This is a special occasion place for us. We feel so pampered there.
I really do not have any other superlatives to describe this meal.
