Sazon, Santa Fe

I have been waiting and waiting for Sazón to re-open since their office fire in May. Finally, Sazón reopened in late December. We were so happy because we truly missed it. As you know, Sazón is one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Fe. This is my go to restaurant for out of town guests and special occasions. I love Chef Fernando Olea’s food. He is a creative chef whose attention to detail is truly remarkable. While we were at Sazón, Chef was training a staff person. This is one of the reasons why when you go to Sazón you feel very special.

I always love that you get a tasting of the mole sauces that will be served that night with little tortillas. I think this is a great idea.

I started out with the black bean soup which has some real bacon in it and on top of it. I thought I could eat around the bacon but I wasn’t very good at that. You see this was my favorite soup when I ate meat. I am sad to say that I will not be eating that soup again. It is truly wonderful if you are a meat eater not so much for me. My better half had the xochimilco which is hutitacoche(corn mold) served with tiny tortillas. Huitacoche considered a delicacy, I think that it is delicious. We also had an incredible shrimp cocktail with a lovely sauce. It was so wonderful.

I had the Coyoacan which is a shrimp enchilada( 32). This isn’t any shrimp enchilada. It is served in a zucchini blossom sauce and a mole that packs some heat. It was incredible!

Halibut was the special of the night and boy was it special. The fish was perfectly cooked. It was a melt in your mouth piece of fish (55). The halibut came with noodles and some delicious beets.

The cocktail was special, too(16). Frida Kahlo would be proud to know that this incredible cocktail was named after her. Frida Kahlo is made with Pinnacle Gin, Gruet Brut Rose,raspberry syrup, fresh lemon juice, and lemons. It tasted as good as it looked. I had a taste because I was driving.
