I read about Door 38 Pizza along time ago in the Santa Fe Reporter and then again in the Santa Fe New Mexican. As you know, I have become a big fan of Detroit style pizza. Backroad Pizza used to have Detroit Style pizza on Wednesday. You had to order on Sunday to pick up a Detroit style pizza on Wednesday. But it has been awhile since I have seen Detroit style pizza on their website.

Door 38 Pizza is located right off the Plaza in Santa Fe in Burro Alley. This is a place that I hardly ever go to visit. I decided that I needed to check out this place, I wanted to see how good their version of Detroit style pizza was. I phoned in my order. I ordered two 38 Specials(12 dollars each). The pizzas come in an 8×10 inch box. But Detroit style pizza is thick with a wonderful crust. A 38 Special comes with red sauce, brick cheese, mozzarella and ricotta cheese.

I could have had the mushroom and arugula(15) with a white sauce and truffled arugula or the green light (14) which has spinach, kale, mushrooms, ricotta cheese and an egg sunnyside-up. I was told my pizzas would take about 20 minutes. That was great because I was still on the south side of town.
Well, my pizzas were done before I got to the restaurant. The person at the counter placed the pizzas on top of the pizza oven to keep them warm. I thought that was very thoughtful. The pizzas stayed warm most of the way home. I did need to warm my pizza up in a skillet. As you can see, it was gorgeous. I really liked the red sauce as well as the crust. There where three different kinds of cheese, brick, mozzarella, and ricotta. Wow! that was a lot of cheese. But I was up to the task. I just needed to put some red pepper flakes and some Tabasco on my pizza. Wow! What a great pizza!!!

I loved Door 38 Pizza’s simple menu of pizzas, some snacks like cheesy garlic breadsticks(6), meatballs and ricotta(8), and roasted Brussels sprouts(7). They also have 3 different kinds of salads: The Alley(7) with iceberg, arugula, brick cheese with a garlic-yogurt dressing, Brussell Blue(9) iceberg, shaved brussels, blue cheese and Parmesan, The Sicilian Caesar(9) Romaine, croutons, Parmesan, and anchovy dressing.
Door 38 Pizza does have a liquor license for beer and wine. I loved that they had Labatt Blue(5) along with some Santa Fe favorites like Santa Fe Happy Camper(6) and Marble Red Ale (6). Wine choices included a Hess Pinot Noir (7) for a 5oz pour and a Sangria Otono(7) a local white wine with apples, and citrus spice. They also have Zia sodas(3), iced tea(2), Mexican Coke(3), sparkling water(2), and San Pelligrino water(3).
