I have to admit that I haven’t been to 315 Restaurant and Wine Bar in years. Mainly because we had a server that kept ignoring us. We waited and waited for a cheese plate dessert. We were told that the cheese had to warm up. Ok, I get that but after 15 minutes. I was pretty warm.
This time we had a much better experience with Chris, our wonderful server. He was a balance of information and an enthusiastic cheerleader about our food order. This was a nice change of pace, even though it was a hectic night because of Angels Dine Out, a benefit for Kitchen Angels. This was Kitchen Angel’s biggest fund raiser of the year. This year about 35 restaurants participated in giving 25% of your bill to aid Kitchen Angels. We were happy to participate this year after a 2 year hiatus.
We sat out on the patio. It was a delightful evening. The ambiance was incredible. We were with a good friend. The kitchen and staff got a little slammed but everything was for a good cause.
As always the food was delicious. It has been a long time since we have been out for dinner, this was our first time. This will not be our last. As the patios open around Santa Fe, we will be enjoying our dinners outside.
To start, we received a beautiful basket of bread. This is always an inviting way to start a meal. No, I don’t do this at home. That is why it is so special when we go out. It is the little touches that really enhance my evening. The bread was also very good.
It was my turn to be the designated driver, so I ordered a Boyland’s Cherry Soda(3.50). Sadly, they were out of Boyland’s Cherry so I had a ginger ale with lime. That was another classy touch. I didn’t think to order a lime with my “drink” but the lime sure added to the taste of the ginger ale.
For my starter, I had the French Onion Soup(15). I wanted to see how it compared with the frozen soup I got at Costco during the winter. Of course, the soup was good. The French Comte cheese covering the top of the bread was just chewy enough for me. The presentation was gorgeous. Just look at it.
There were lots of sliced onions and the broth was delicious. Below is a close-up photo of the French Onion Soup. The soup was just hot enough to be able to eat as soon as it arrived to the table.
I liked that the soup wasn’t very salty. Sometimes soups taste good just because there is a great deal of salt in them. There was some pepper. The soup wasn’t very spicy. And as I said before, the temperature was spot on.
For my entree, I had the fresh fettuccini with spring herbs and vegetables(27). The vegetables consisted of spinach, spring fava beans, spring onions, peas, and asparagus with a saffron cream. To tell the truth, I had no idea what a saffron cream was. All I know was there was a heck of a lot of butter in that sauce. There probably was some salt, too. I’m not used to a lot of butter. Sometimes it is just too rich for me.
The cheese was already on top of the fettuccini before I received the dish. The vegetables were cooked just perfectly and the fettuccini was indeed freshly made. I guess I am so used to eating at home that I need more spices in my food. We have all kinds of spices at home.
I was full but my companions did manage to have dessert which meant that I could have a taste. The chocolate pot de creme(10) was the biggest dish of pot de creme that I have ever seen. I mean it was bigger than 2 usual dishes of pot de creme. I didn’t know that pot de creme was gluten free. Well, this one was. OMG! There was so much dark chocolate. I was happy with two spoonfuls. I also had a bite of the lemon tart(10). The lemon was delicious but there seemed to me that there was a little too much crust.
