I’m usually not a bread person but I do like the Bread Shop. The people at the Bread Shop are also very nice people that promote locals. I wanted a rye bread with caraway seeds. Just me. That is the kind of rye bread that I grew up on. I tried the Sage Bakehouse and I’m so glad I did. The Sage Bakehouse has delicious bread. I started my order online to pick up later in the day. The website was very easy to navigate and I was happy to pick up my bread later in the afternoon. Little did I know that I could have gotten a sandwich(panini) or a tartine(an open-face sandwich). I had never heard of a tartine. Who knew? I have always called them an open-faced sandwich. You learn something new everyday. Cool!

But my focus was on bread, especially rye bread. The description was so inviting. “A traditional Jewish rye bread with caraway seeds. Here we recreate the bread found in the bakeries of Brooklyn at the turn of the century.” Wow! who could resist that. And this slice of heaven was only 5.95. Speaking of sliced, you have the option of having your bread sliced or whole.

We also decided to check out the green chile bread. Oh, my that bread had bits of green chile with cheddar cheese. It was more like a cake than a bread. It was heavenly! The green chile bread comes as a 12oz loaf for 4.90. Just delicious.

Ok, I’m still not going to be eating bread on a regular basis but when I decide to order bread, I have two excellent shops, The Bread Shop and Sagebakehouse to order from in Santa Fe. This is incredible!

As I stopped in, I also noticed that there were table outside on Cerrillos Road there were even more tables inside but it was a beautiful day so most of the crowd was outside. My order was ready when I was there. So I would give high marks to the service that was provided. The inside of the Sagebakehouse was light and airy, too.

Sagebakehouse has a well put together website that is very impressive. Ok, I got hungry and my stomach started up when I was looking at this site. A job well done! Yes, I grabbed a slice of bread with some Heidi’s raspberry jam, another local favorite. The price is around 10 dollars but also incredible especially on the rye bread.

Sage Bakehouse is located at 535 Cerrillos Road. Their phone number is 505.820-7243

Sadly, Acre Restaurant has closed in Albuquerque. I loved that place! Also The Plant Based Cafe has closed in Santa Fe but has two other locations one in Taos and a brand new location that is going to be in Albuquerque.
