I was so happy that Root 66 Cafe had returned. It’s brand new location is at 1704 Lena St. Root 66 Cafe is open Tuesday through Friday 10am to 2pm. I was in town so I ordered the last carryout of the day on Friday. You can order through the site listed above. I like that you can do that with ease. You do need to use a credit card. But Root 66 Cafe is now selling gift certificates.
I think Root 66 has a different chef. The food was a little different than I remembered it. I had the Green Chili Queso Burger(14). I loved the pretzel roll bun and was delighted that pickled vegetables were included as a side. However, I am still looking for the green chile. The pretzel bun was delicious. The pickled vegetables included my favorite vegetable, carrots. The pickling spices tasted like clove. Clove is not a favorite spice of mine. I like it in Anchor Steam’s Christmas beer but that is about it. The onions were delicious and added to the the burger. I added my own French’s mustard and different pickles. I was overjoyed that the burger had pickles and promptly ate them. I like the pickles I had at home better. My pickles didn’t taste of clove.
I have started grilling Beyond Meat Burgers at home. I like the charcoal grilled taste better than the regular grill. Just me.
My better half had the grilled cheese (cheddar and gouda) pesto sandwich on sourdough bread with red peppers(7). It also had a side of pickled vegetables. I am not a big pesto fan so I didn’t ask for a taste. It looked great.
We ordered a large side of potatoes(5). They were nicely cooked.
We had read a review of the blood orange cupcakes(5) which sounded incredible. We had to have them. Once again the taste of clove overwhelmed all the other spices in this cupcake.
If you really like the taste of clove, this is your place. I think I’m going to wait awhile to return.

The person who handed us our ordered was friendly and personable. The paper cartons were environment friendly as were the utensils.
Two negatives in a row. You are on a roll.
Cloves are not my favorite either.
