Saturday November 28 was Small Business Saturday. It is the state of New Mexico’s way of helping promote small businesses throughout the state. It was a tax free day. This was an outgrowth of Black Friday.
I thought about all the small businesses, especially restaurants, who are hurting at this time. Since we were still on stay at home orders from the Governor, I didn’t venture out. But I tried to order items on line as part of my holiday shopping.
After our first shelter in place this spring, I decided that I could buy gift certificates to help out my favorite restaurants. They would get the much needed money and I could buy food with my gift card when it was safe to return.
So I found this State of New Mexico, Office of Economic Development website, Buy Local NM, on Saturday night. I thought this was a great idea. The website listed various New Mexican Businesses not just restaurants. They stated that you could be buying gift cards from all of the listed establishments.
I found the website to be clunky and hard to navigate. For example, in the search area, I typed in restaurant and all I got was Back Street Pizza. Hmmm. So I am going to make this easy and list the restaurants, breweries, food and spirit related websites in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. To be fair, I think this website is a work in progress. A good idea but not quite finished…
This website keeps growing. I will update this list as the weeks continue.
At the bottom of the page are some local establishments listed by the Santa Fe Report’s Fork column
