Cowgirl BBQ, Santa Fe

I hadn’t been to Cowgirl in a long time. We used to go there all the time especially when we were tourists visiting Santa Fe. We used to bring people from out of town there to taste the local cuisine. When some good friends suggested that we meet there for lunch, I thought what a great idea. Lately, I need to feel safe so I ask to eat outside as much as possible. Cowgirl filled the bill. We were seated outside in the enclosed porch with heaters.

I chose the Christmas Tamale Pie(11) as my lunch entree. As you know, I have been craving tamales lately. It must be the season.

This is the gorgeous Christmas Tamale Pie! The tamale pie(11) was corn masa layered with calabacitas. I love squash with corn. Just look at that plate! The side salad also was a beautiful presentation of a salad. It tasted as good as it looked. The red bell peppers were a pleasant surprise. The pepitas and red onions with tiny sliced carrots just added to the flavor and also the taste. What a side salad! The tamale pie was topped with Monterrey Jack and Cheddar cheese. It was a delightful combination of my favorite cheeses. The combination was a match made in heaven or in this case the Cowgirl’s kitchen.

Since we hadn’t seen our friends in a long time, it took us a while to figure out what we were going to eat. Our server was very patient and helpful. There wasn’t a crowd so we didn’t have to hurry. I would recommend that you arrive for lunch after the large lunch crowd 11:30-1pm leaves. We were able to get a booth on the heated porch after the lunch crowd left. There are more vegetarian and vegan food options than previously offered. All good! One of our friends was even able to get a gluten free bun for his burger. As always, the service and the food are top notch. Cowgirl offers online ordering, take-out, daily food specials, daily drink specials. Happy Hour is from 3-6pm Monday-Friday.
